When the local Solihull press reported that Troop Aid had recently suffered vandalism to their one and only vehicle Shirley Lions responded by holding a tinshake at their local Sainsbury’s to raise sufficient funds to pay for all the remedial work. Over £500 was collected on the day and the club members agreed to round this up to £600 which was enough to meet their aim. Club President Lion Martin Wright accompanied by Lion Andrea Lees and Sainsbury’s Community Champion Olivia Verney then presented their cheque to Troop Aid founder Al Sutton at the store. Al explained that the general public perception is that there is now no need for Troop Aid following our withdrawal from Afghanistan. This is incorrect as our troops are currently engaged in no less than 21 areas of conflict in the world and this of course results in injured troops who more often than not are returned to the UK with just the clothes they were wearing at the time.
