At their recent Club meeting, Kenilworth Lions were delighted to welcome back a team of young sports leaders from Kenilworth School, who had represented England at the World Schools Education Games in Greece earlier in the year.

The Club had made a major contribution of £1,000 towards the total costs of the trip, in recognition of which every team shirt was proudly emblazoned with the Lions Club International logo.

The team spent a week in Greece, the first half at the International Olympic Academy situated on the hillside above Ancient Olympia. Here they took part in unified sports with other teams from China, France, Bugaria, Brazil and Special Olympic teams from England.

The rest of the time was spent in Athens, including taking part in the Olympic Torch Relay and the Olympic Flame Ceremony.

It was clearly a fantastic experience for these young sports ambassadors, mixing with and playing a variety of sports with their counterparts from across the world. Language barriers appear to have been easily overcome, although perhaps the fact that English is the official language of the IOC might have helped!

The Kenilworth School team clearly impressed the England organisers, who have invited the school to bring a team back to the games next year.
