Kenilworth Lions Club and Kenilworth School have been getting their heads together recently, to help promote world peace through a poster competition entitled the “Lions International Peace Poster Contest”. A group of pupils from the school aged 11-13 designed their own individual posters with the theme “A Celebration of Peace”.
A panel comprising Hayden Abbott – head teacher of Kenilworth School, Phil Inshaw – President of Kenilworth Lions Club, John Ellam – well known local artist and Lion Graham Pemberton met to judge the competition entries. They were impressed by the quality and creativity of the artwork and the effort that the children had put into it.
After a close-run contest, the eventual winner was chosen – Mia, aged 11. Her poster will now enter the next level of judging at Lions District level, and could even progress to the International Grand Prize winner level, with a $5,000 prize and a trip for the winner and two family members to an award ceremony in the United States.
Everyone at Kenilworth Lions and Kenilworth School is keeping fingers crossed that Mia’s entry will progress further in the competition.
